Welcome Oliver: From Climate Science to Cutting-Edge AI
We are absolutely thrilled to officially welcome Oliver Angélil, PhD to the Ship26 crew.
It is not every day you get to hang out with an ETH Zurich PhD who seamlessly transitions from the complex physics of global climate models to building production-ready AI algorithms. When he isn’t busy architecting tech solutions, Oliver is pushing his physical limits as a true sports fanatic, routinely crushing it in swimming, running, and cycling.
Oliver’s expertise stretches far beyond academia. He is the CTO and co-founder of Ishango.ai, a venture that bridges a major market gap by connecting exceptionally well-educated tech talent from countries like Kenya, Ghana, Ethiopia, and Uganda with European and American markets. His team focuses on building high-impact, practical systems, ranging from predictive maintenance AI for hydroelectric power plants to computer vision models that optimize agricultural supply chains. While the tech world hypes the flashier concepts of Agentic AI, Oliver remains focused on the critical, foundational truths of data quality and rigorous monitoring.
Beyond his commercial tech ventures, Oliver’s core passion is rooted in addressing our climate reality. He recently grounded our team in the undeniable, hard data of climate science, sharing a sobering reminder that accelerating extreme weather events go far beyond a shorter ski season in Switzerland. It is a global challenge that requires both data-driven urgency and real-world action.
Oliver represents exactly the kind of forward-thinking, multi-dimensional talent we love to surround ourselves with — a brilliant mind, an elite athlete, and a leader driving tangible global tech impact. We are incredibly proud to have him as a core crew member here at Ship26. Let’s navigate the future together.
